Training

Ralph Waldo Emmerson said, “put trust in ideas, and not in circumstances.” BSA training provides leaders with the ideas and know-how for creating fun, valuable programs consistent with the methods and ideals of Scouting. Training helps leaders focus on providing a great experience for their Scouts.

TRAINING, TRAINING, TRAINING!! Online, in person in Powhatan district, or in person in another district. It doesn’t matter. There is a training course for every position in your unit. The training will help you present a better program for the youth in your unit. You earn a “Trained” patch for your uniform. It counts towards JTE for your unit. It also helps you earn an adult award for your position. Follow this link to get the details.

Is your unit ready to train-up? Save the Date for one of our area’s upcoming trainings for unit leaders, committee members, chartered organization representatives, and other adult volunteers.

Youth Protection Training
All adult leaders must take BSA’s Youth Protection Training Course, and renew their YPT certification.  With the start of BSA’s Family Scouting Program, all adult leaders are required to complete the new online Youth Protection Training Course before September 29, 2018. Visit BSA’s Youth Protection webpage for more information.

Scoutmaster/ASM Training (S24)

Through a series of lively presentations and discussions, the course trainers teach methods adult leaders can use to guide scouts and deliver an effective, exciting scouting program.  The Powhatan District trainers make it VERY relevant and absolutely useful for all who attend.  And it is open to any adult, including all those in the Troop Committee and Troop parents.  Current and aspiring Assistant Scoutmasters, don’t miss this opportunity!

There are no materials required for this training.  All scouters, however, should have taken the mandatory youth protection training prior to the class.  Should you wish to bring your own coffee mug, please do.
