The Board of Trustees for the Charlotte Hall School that maintains the white house and chapel at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home has asked for the help of Scouts (youth and adults) in conducting a cleanup day at “Ye Coole Springs” across the road behind the former St. Mary’s County Visitors Bureau. The clean-up is to be on Wednesday, April 17th, 9AM-3PM. This is a great opportunity to complete service hours needed for advancement and one need not participate for the entire six hours to assist with this community service project.
We are being asked to assist with cleaning up the springs and shallow stream by clearing out debris (overgrown grasses, shrubs & tree limbs). Rakes, line trimmers (aka weed whackers) & wheel barrows would help expedite the work if you can bring them. Waterproof boots (or boots and a change of shoes & socks), gloves and safety glasses should be worn. Please bring a lunch if you plan to volunteer the whole time.
If you, individual Scouts or your entire unit is interested in supporting this community organization, please contact David Nelsen ASAP at danelsen@alum.rpi.edu or 301.997.5065. We’re looking for 6-10 Scouts/Scouters to assist.
