Attend Klondike Derby for the Day: January 25
December 18, 2019
As many of you have heard by now, we sold out of all 85 of the Klondike Derby campsites in just over 10 days, by the morning of Wednesday, December 11th. That was amazingly fast. Last year I know we still had campsites available through mid-January. While it is great to have such interest in this event, the downside is that some units that planned to camp there cannot.
Any Troops/Crews/Ships/GSUSA units that were not able to reserve a campsite can still attend the Klondike Derby for the day, including participating in the skills Stations competition, and staying for the Campfire & OA Call-Out. I am also looking into the possibility of arranging for an additional/alternate campsite. See below.
Attend for the Day Only
To attend just for the day you simply go to the original registration website at https://scoutingevent.com/082-31359 and download the “2020 Klondike Roster & Final Payment Form Fillable”. You fill that out and bring that form + the payment ($5 per person, Scouts + adults) to the Registration Desk at the Klondike between 7 am and 8 am on Saturday January 25th. This gets each attendee (Scouts + adults) admittance to the event + a Klondike patch. If your unit now plans to attend for the day only, please send me an email at KlondikeDerby@Gmail.com to let me know. This is simply to aid in my planning.
- Units that ARE camping at the Klondike must also bring that same form + payment with them to Klondike. Those units turn these items in upon arrival Friday evening.
2. The above information only applies to Troops/Crews/Ships/GSUSA units. It does NOT apply to Webelos & their chaperones who are attending the Webelos Invitational event. Nothing has changed with regard to that event. You still register for that at https://scoutingevent.com/082-31360.
Possible Additional / Alternate Campsite
I am also looking to see if I can make arrangements for additional space to camp. I am looking at High Point Farm which is located across Route 355 from Little Bennett Campground. It’s not ideal since it would require roughly a 2/3 (0.66) mile hike crossing Route 355 to get to the activity Stations. With that said, in order to determine if this is an option worth pursuing, I need to know the level of interest in this option.
If you are a unit (Troop/Crew/Ship/GSUSA) that wanted to camp at the Klondike Derby but were not able to reserve a campsite, and you would be interested in camping at High Point Farm if I can arrange it, please send me an email at KlondikeDerby@Gmail.com. If you can, please tell me the number of campsites you would have reserved at Little Bennett had you been able to, plus your best guess as to how many total attendees you will have (Scouts + adults). Whether or not this works out will depend on a number of factors (e.g, # of interested units, cost to reserve High Point, cost for additional port-a-john’s, etc.).
Thank you for your patience with our growing pains.
Yours In Scouting,
