Scout Day at the Mount: January 18, 2020

November 27, 2019

Scouts and Scouters in three Catholic dioceses—Archdiocese of Washington, Archdiocese of Baltimore, and Diocese of Arlington—are joining young seminarians for a faith-filled day at the Seminary of Mount St. Mary’s located in the scenic Catoctin Mountains of northern Maryland.  The event is being held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020.

Scouts and Scouters will spend the morning learning about the Catholic faith and scouting in the Catholic Church.  A special session is being held for scouts who are working on the Ad Altare Dei Catholic religious medal. Scouts will also learn about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and about an important Martyr of the Faith—Blessed Stanley Rother—who graduated from the Seminary of Mount St. Mary’s.  Scouts and Scouters will attend morning mass with the seminarians and enjoy a warm winter luncheon.

The seminary is ideally situated only a short distance away from two important Catholic shrines:  the National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes and the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  Scouts and Scouters will have ample time to visit one or more of these shrines and explore the many exhibits (including a Civil War exhibit at the Seton Shrine) following the day’s event.

The event is sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington, Catholic Committee on Scouting.  Participants may register at
