Jamboree on the Air: October 18-20
October 09, 2019
I am writing as a representative of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary unit that is based in Gaithersburg, Md., to inquire whether the Seneca District has any units interested in participating on the worldwide “JOTA” (Jamboree on the Air) event on October 18-20. As you are probably aware, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has a formal agreement with the Sea Scouts, and we would be happy to extend our efforts to other areas of Scouting as well, which JOTA fits into nicely.
The Auxiliary, as part of its training and assistance to the Coast Guard, engages in various aspects of radio communications, including HF radio communications. My “flotilla” (what each Coast Guard Auxiliary unit is called) has some members who own the needed equipment and amateur radio licenses to participate in JOTA and we would like to offer to support the event so that local Scouts can participate.
If you do not already have a plan in place, would you be interested in having our Auxiliary unit create an “event” for JOTA? What this means is that our licensed amateur radio operators would bring the equipment, and there would be licensed operators to enable to get attending Scouts a turn “on the air,” where they might end up talking to Scouts from all over the world.
We propose that this would be on Saturday, Oct. 19, 9:00 to 5:00 PM, and take place in a park or similar location within the Seneca District. We would need to know approximately how many Scouts are expected to attend, so as to be prepared with enough equipment and radio operators.
Please contact Nancy Navarro for details before 10/11.

Flotilla Staff Officer, Communications
