Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge: August 28

Calling Scouts from all around Maryland, DC, Virginia, and the surrounding areas! Come learn how to survive, thrive, and assist in an emergency. Come get your Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge!

On August 28th from 11am-2pm, The National Cancer Institute’s Emergency Management and Physical Security Branch, along with Johns Hopkins University- Montgomery County Campus will be hosting their annual preparedness fair to kick-off National Preparedness Month.

This year, scouts of all ages are invited to come and work on their Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge.

Scouts will begin the day by being briefed on an “emergency” before being split into task forces (patrols/dens). The task forces will then proceed to explore the fair to seek the training they need to respond to this “emergency.” They will learn from first responders representing agencies such as Federal Protective Service, Stop the Bleed, American Red Cross, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services, and many more. At each station, they will complete one or more of the requirements for Emergency Preparedness badge or award. Following their “training,” they will participate in a small scale emergency exercise involving some of the skills they learned and a whole lot of fun!

  • A copy of your EventBrite ticket
  • Class B Uniform
  • Notebook & Pen
  • Merit badge book (optional)

*Lunch will be available for purchase at the on-site farmers’ market.
