Camp Properties – Camp Improvement

Camp Improvement includes organizing and supporting a wide range of small to medium maintenance projects, repair projects, and other volunteer service projects to improve the appearance, condition, and functionality of our camps.

Goshen Camps Carry out a “de-junking” and general cleanup program at Goshen Scout Reservation to remove dilapidated structures, broken and unused equipment and furnishings, scrap wood and junk piles, brush piles, etc.
All Camps Replace all camp signage with a uniform, professional design.
All Camps Working closely with staff, develop a training program for volunteers who wish to perform maintenance, repairs, and other service projects at our camps during the off-season.  The program should include procedures and practices for safety, communication with staff, standards for the quality of work, “do” and “don’t” instructions, and other information to ensure efficient, quality work that meets the camp’s standards without staff being pulled away from other important work.
All Camps Working closely with staff, develop a briefing for units in attendance at summer camp who wish to perform a camp service project.  The briefing should include procedures and practices for safety, communication with staff, “do” and “don’t” instructions, where to get tools and supplies, and other information to ensure a safe, useful, and fun service project experience.
All Camps Develop a list of service projects at each camp appropriate for units in attendance at summer camp.  Include difficulty level and estimated time required for each project, a list of tools and supplies required for each project, and the name of the camp staff contact.
All Camps Working with staff and the camp’s prioritized list of maintenance, repair, and improvement projects, identify tasks and projects that could be performed by volunteers, the difficulty level (skill required) and estimated time (volunteer hours) required for each task and project, a list of tools and supplies required for each task and project, and the name of the camp staff contact. Maintain a lists of tasks and projects for a wide variety of skill levels, for individuals, and for large and small groups of volunteers.

All Camps Construct large, safe, attractive fire rings for the camp bonfires at camp amphitheaters.
All Camps Construct lantern stands to provide adequate stage lighting at camp amphitheaters.
All Camps Construct safe, attractive permanent fire rings for individual campsites.
