9:00 AM – What is the Order of the Arrow? A Guide for New Units

Are you wondering what is the Order of the Arrow? Want to learn how a youth or adult becomes a member of the OA or how the OA can help your unit? These questions and more will be answered as we delve into the world of the OA! This session is best recommended for SPLs or youth aged 16+.

Is Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering your calling? Come learn about the STEM Nova Awards program from Tyler Schroder, a Dr. Bernard Harris Supernova awardee! The STEM Nova Awards are designed to excite and expand a sense of wonder in Scouts. By working with an adult counselor or mentor, the various modules allow them to explore the basic principles of STEM and discover how fun and fascinating STEM can be. Odds are you’ve completed most of the requirements already!

Now that you’ve established your camp, you should go out and safely explore. Enjoy this nature scavenger hike from Troops 1853B & 1853G. Make sure to be safe outdoors: wear a mask and don’t get too close to others.

12:00 PM – From Zero to Fifty…Miles – A Practical Guide to Adding Hiking and Backpacking to Your Program

Does your troop or crew want to start a hiking or backpacking program? Is your unit new or have young Scouts? Do your Scouts laugh at walking 10, 15, or 20 miles? Are you a new hiking or backpacking merit badge counselor? If the answer is yes, then this is the course for you. Students will learn how to start a hiking and backpacking program with special emphasis on planning, logistics, and how hikes/treks should build toward a goal while keeping Scouts engaged, building muscle, increasing endurance, and learning team work and leadership. This class is not how to hike or backpack, but how to start, plan, and execute a hiking and backpacking program. Real world examples of hikes and what leaders should consider when planning hikes and treks. Best recommended for youth 16+.

Want to be a better LEADER? Scouts from the National Youth Leadership Training program will share their thoughts on what it takes to help you communicate clearly, interact with adults productively, and deal with conflict effectively. This session is suitable for Scouts looking to provide leadership to the Patrols, Troops or other Units.

10:00 AM – Venturing Mentoring

This course will help you to understand how to mentor other members of your crew, and appreciate the role mentoring plays in personal growth for both the mentor and mentee.  It will take approximately two hours to complete this course. Right now, please download the required handouts. You will need a PDF reader to open them, such as Adobe or Foxit Reader. Please come to the session prepared to learn and collaborate with other Scouts! You may be in small-group breakout rooms for parts of the session.
