A Note From Your Camping and Outdoor Program Committee Chair

Fellow Scouters,

Are you and your unit ready for the spectacular Goshen@50 Camporee this Memorial Day Weekend?   If not, you need to get ready, and register NOW because the late registration fee increase starts on April 1st!   This is an event you do not want to miss.  Cost for the weekend is just $35.00 per person.  Families are $20.00 per head, with children under 6 free.  Every participant will receive a special 50th Anniversary Patch.  To register, click here!

In addition to Goshen’s regular program venues such as shooting sports, COPE and climbing, and aquatics, the 50th Anniversary Camporee will feature a number of special activities including: Challenge Trek, Baden-Powell Iron Man Classic, Mega Scavenger Hunt (Geocaching), and Unit Competitions, all culminating Sunday evening with an AMAZING Arena Show, complete with fireworks over Lake Merriweather.  There will also be displays covering the 50-year history of Goshen, reenactors in period uniforms, and the opportunity to meet Goshen Alumni – former Scouts and Camp Staff who worked to make Goshen the wonderful Scout Reservation it is today.

And, speaking of Goshen Alumni, we need your help to get the word out to former members of your Units so as many Alumni as possible will have the opportunity to experience this not-to-be forgotten celebration.   If you have an email list or phone numbers for your former Scouts, please let them know.  We have very special programs planned for Alumni, who can come and camp for weekend, or just visit for the day.  Cost for the day is only $ 15.00 and includes the 50th Anniversary Patch. Guides for Scouts and Alumni can be found at the link above.

Lastly, at the Arena show, we will be honoring Goshen Legends – individuals whose contributions to Goshen over the past 50 years really stand out.  So far our list includes such luminaries as Monsignor Brady, Ranger Jack Kyle, Superintendent Chuck Burgdorf, Ed Feddeman, Drac Peyton, and Mike Jolly.   If you know of someone deserving (volunteer or staff) please send an email to John McGovern, Camporee Vice Chair – Alumni, at canoerat@verizon.net, with the nominee’s name and a short description of the persons contributions to Goshen, with approximate dates.

I look forward to seeing you at our Council’s own Goshen Scout Reservation for a fun-filled, memory making 50th Anniversary celebration.

Yours in Scouting,

John Montgomery
