Counselors & Mentors

The Boy Scouts of America’s NOVA Awards program incorporates learning with cool activities and exposure to science, technology, engineering and mathematics for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers. Our hope is that the requirements and activities for earning these awards stimulate interest in STEM-related fields and show how science, technology, engineering and mathematics apply to everyday living and the world around them. As Counselors and Mentors you can help bring this engaging, contemporary, and fun program to life for our youth members.

To qualify, you much be at least 21 years of age and be of good character.

To register as a Nova Counselor submit:

  1. A complete, signed adult application (page 3; this is a no fee position and you do not need to obtain the signatures besides your own — the STEM Committee will approve this). Position code 58 for Nova Counselor
  1. A signed disclosure /authorization form on page 15 of the adult application.
  1. A printed, current certificate for Youth Protection Training. (go to myscouting.org )

 

To register as a Supernova Mentor submit:

  1. A complete, signed adult application (page 3, this is a no fee position and you do not need to obtain the signatures besides your own — the STEM Committee will approve this). Position code 52 for Supernova Mentor
  2. A signed background check /authorization form on page 9 of the adult application.
  3. A printed, current certificate for Youth Protection Training. (go to myscouting.org )
  4. A completed Supernova Mentor Information form, indicating which awards you wish to mentor.

Or submit the paperwork directly to the Marriott Scout Service Center (NCAC BSA| 9190 Rockville Pike | Bethesda, MD 20814) to the Attention: STEM.

What happens when I turn my paperwork in?

If approved, within 2 weeks you will receive confirmation by email that the Nova Counselor of Supernova Mentor position code has been added to your BSA profile. At this point you may begin to counsel or mentor so long as you are current with YPT and follow the rules. If you are not contacted within 2 weeks, please email supernova@ncacbsa.org and someone will help track your application.
