Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills (IOLS) and Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
You’ll learn how to build a fire, use an axe, cook outdoors, use a map and compass, responsibly care for the outdoors, and much more. Even if you weren’t a Scout as a kid, you’ll come out of this course looking and acting like a seasoned camper. IOLS participants only need to attend one of the IOLS Day 1 sessions. |

Are you interested in adding a camping component to your Pack activities? BALOO training is a one-and-a-half day introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program. You will complete the online prerequisite component, and then an overnight practical camp to use your new skills. We'll review BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies, and provide the necessary tools to help your unit carry out a successful camping experience. BALOO participants must complete the online prerequisites course before attending the overnight practical. It is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter to have taken this course. Best practice has a minimum of three on any Cub campout. Bonus: You are welcome to attend one of the IOLS prerequisite classes. If you elect to do so - You will be given credit for both BALOO and IOLS, with no extra cost. |
