National Capital Area Council (NCAC) celebrated the grand re-opening of its Scout Shop in Springfield, Va., this past Saturday, May 17. The new store, located on Port Royal Road in the Ravensworth Shopping Center, is set to be the flagship store for Scouting supplies in the nation.
“We are committed to being a good neighbor and developing long-lasting relationships in the Springfield community,” said Les Baron, CEO and Scout Executive of the council. “My hope is that the Springfield store will be the premier shop in all of Scouting, the one all others aspire to be.”
The Supply Group, the product supplier for the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), has designated this store its flagship as it is the newest, most up-to-date, store in the country. The Springfield store is approximately 4,000 square feet and has the atmosphere of a high-end sports outfitter, much like REI or L.L. Bean. Outdoor enthusiasts and Scouts alike can browse close to 5,000 items which include Goal Zero solar-powered products and GoPro extreme sports equipment, in addition to Scout uniforms, badges, handbooks and more.
The event will culminated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and staff was on hand to offer walking tours all day long. Guests were able to win prizes and play fun Scouting games throughout the day and the first customers in line will received a $50 gift card while all the youth that stopped by received a NCAC T-shirt, while supplies lasted.
The Northern Virginia Scout Shop is currently ranked as the number one Scout Shop (in dollar sales volume) in the Northeast Region and is one of two stores managed by the Supply Group in NCAC’s service area, which includes the Washington, D.C., metro area and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The store currently employs 10 full-time and part-time sales associates and is always looking for candidates with qualified customer service.
