This 7.2 mile hike takes most units 4 to 6 hours to complete and the route takes you from the FDR Memorial on a historic trail by the Smithsonian Museums, behind the Capitol, and follows the path up Pennsylvania Ave. of the Suffrage parade.
Registration fees for the hike go to support the year round HOST Hike program, Washington, D.C. Scouting and the preservation of Scouting History. For your $10 registration fee you will receive two different patches for participating, a commemorative Scouting history booklet and the special activity worksheets. Hike medals are not included in your registration fee. The hike medal, and hike patches, will be available for purchase after being successfully EARNED by the completion 85% or more of the activities associated with the hike. You will have the opportunity to redo activities if needed, in order to qualify you for your medal. There are ONLY 3,000 Inaugural Medals available to hikers, once this number is reached, you will only be able to register to hike without the option to purchase a medal.
Any hikers who do not plan to purchase a Inaugural Baden-Powell Hike medal at the end of the hike may register at $10 per hiker. This registration fee will grant the hiker two patches for participating. They will also receive an activity card so that they can also participate in hike activities if they desire to do so as they hike.
In order to purchase your medal you MUST submit your completed activity worksheet. Additional restricted hike patch designs will be available for $5 each.
No refunds will be issued for this event, however you may transfer a registration to another person or unit. Registration fees are not refundable but they are transferable. As long as the registration is still available for a time slot, you can still register people. You may also register the day of the event, as space allows. Please try to register as a Unit - Troop, Pack, Crew, etc. and arrive at the times you registered to hike.

Where does it start?
As we get closer to the event your Hike Leader will be sent an email with the details on how to check in on the day of your hike.
Where do we end?
The Hike ends at one of several partner museums where hike staff will collect your answer sheets and have you recognition items available for purchase. All endpoints are near Metro Center Metro station and also only a short walk to Gallery Place China Town station and Archives Navy Memorial stations for easy access to every color Metro line. You will be told where your end point is at check-in.
What to bring on the hike?
Each hiker (including adults) should have:
- Two pencils or pens
- A camera (each hiker must be able to take 6 photos individually, sharing is okay, cell phones with cameras are fine)
- Full Uniform (if you have one)
- A watch (any kind)
- One empty plastic bag (Safeway/Giant type)
- Appropriate weather gear and water bottle
- Curiosity and sense of adventure
- Money to purchase Hike items at completion

- Small magnifying glass
