This 5.9 mile hike takes most units 4-6 hours to complete and the route takes you across the historic Taft Memorial Bridge and includes amazing and unique views of the city and monuments. This hike is open to any Scout unit that wants to participate in the HOST Hike Weekend program.
Registration fees for the hike go to support the year round HOST Hike program, Washington, D.C. Scouting and the preservation of Scouting History. For your $10 registration fee you will receive the two different participation patches and the a special activity worksheet. Hike medals are not included in your registration fee. The hike medal, and hike patches, will be available for purchase after being successfully EARNED by the completion of 85% or more of the activities associated with the hike. You will have the opportunity to redo activities if needed, in order to qualify you for your medal.
In order to purchase your medal you MUST submit your completed activity worksheet. The hike medal will be available at the end of the hike for a cost of $10 each. Additional restricted hike patch designs will be available for $5 each.
No refunds will be issued for this event, however you may transfer a registration to another person or unit. Registration fees are not refundable but they are transferable.
As long as the registration is still available for a time slot, you can still register people. You may also register the day of the event, as space allows. Please try to register as a Unit - Troop, Pack, Crew, etc. and arrive at the times you registered to hike.

Where does it start?
As we get closer to the event your Hike Leader will be sent an email with the details on how to check in on the day of your hike.
Where do we end?
The Hike ends at one of several partner museum who will collect your answer sheets and sell awards and souvenirs in their gift shops. All endpoints are near Metro Center Metro station and also only a short walk to Gallery Place China Town station and Archives Navy Memorial stations for easy access to every color Metro line. You will be told where your end point is at check-in.
What to bring on the hike?
Each hiker (including adults) should have:
- Two pencils or pens
- A camera (each hiker must be able to take 6 photos individually, sharing is okay, cell phones with cameras are fine)
- Full Uniform (if you have one)
- A watch (any kind)
- One empty plastic bag (Safeway/Giant type)
- Appropriate weather gear and water bottle
- Curiosity and sense of adventure
- Money to purchase Hike items at completion
You’ll need at least one of these for the whole group:
- Small magnifying glass
- One crisp $10 bill (for one of the clues – you keep it)
- Binoculars (Recommended)
