UPCOMING NEWS and EVENTS
We've had a busy month! Our Ordeal in early May was great and we inducted 16 Ordeal members and 7 Brotherhood members. At the Ordeal we elected our new officers for 2014:
Chapter Chief - Nate Dudley Troop 144
Vice Chief - Jacob Steele Troop 1788
Vice Chief of Ceremonies - Ken St. John Troop 1780
Congratulations! Thank you to everyone who attended and helped. We performed a lot of CHEERFUL SERVICE for Camp Merrick.
Then the week after that a bunch of us attended the Section Conclave at Broadcreek Scout Reservation in Whiteford, Maryland. It was AWESOME! Friday night we had Rock and Roll Trivia - our Lodge came in 2nd. Saturday we had seminars, Indian Dancing, Volleyball (our Lodge came in 1st), Lodge Ball, Ultimate Frisbee, Bead making, Velcro Wall, fishing and much more. The campfire that night included a LIVE BAND, slide show of photos from the weekend, LASER LIGHT SHOW and FIREWORKS! It was a great weekend! (BTW - because we doubled our attendance we will be getting an ice cream party at a chapter meeting!)
Coming up on June 4th is our Monthly Chapter Meeting. It will be held at LaPlata United Methodist Church - 3 Port Tobacco Rd. LaPlata Md (corner of Rt 6 and Rt 301) at 7pm. We will be talking about our June Kings Dominion trip! and Goshen bus loading.
Our Lodge Fellowship is going to be held at Camp Snyder on June 6-8th. This is important to attend because this is where we elect our next year's Lodge Officers. If you are interested in running for a lodge office, please let me know because there is paperwork that needs to be filled out, reviewed and submitted. You must attend the Fellowship to be a candidate and attend the Candidate's Forum on Saturday. So, please let me know. Register at: http://www.ncacbsa.org/members/group_content_view.asp?group=115700&id=247363. I have attached the Spring Fellowship flyer for you to see...
OA Dues are also due and can be paid online at http://www.ncacbsa.org/group/OA - if you haven't paid your dues you are not officially a member of the OA. Scoutmasters will be receiving a list of their members soon.
For Scoutmasters: If you have recently eligible OA candidates, the Chapter officers are willing to conduct elections for your troop during the month of June. These elections must be completed before the end of June and the candidates, must not have been on an election ballot in 2014. The same rules apply. Elections guidance (eligibility criteria and forms) is available at the Council website's OA page athttp://www.ncacbsa.org/members/group_content_view.asp?group=115700&id=248181&hhSearchTerms=%22OA+and+Elections%22 So, please let me know as soon as possible if you would like an election. Also, any adult applications should be sent directly to the OA Advisor - Dean Bramell at firstname.lastname@example.org
I have enjoyed my 2 years as Chapter Chief and hope to continue to help Nate, Jacob and Kenny in their new positions!
