Tiger Conservation Belt Loop Workshop
Sunday, March 9th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Tigers will complete belt loop requirements and 3 of 5 requirements toward conservation pin.
Bears Sharing Your World with Wildlife
Sunday, March 23rd from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Join us for a half day workshop learning about conserving wildlife, the people that help wildlife and how you can help too!
Webelos Naturalist Workshops
Saturday, April 6th, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Also a separate class for the same achievement is offered Sunday, April 27th, also from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
These workshops for Cub Scouts are being offered this spring and will cover most or all requirements for the badges indicated. These workshops are free; however, donations are greatly appreciated and can be donated through the Friends of Patuxent. Space is limited, and registration is required by calling 301-497-5887. Registration will not be accepted until 9:15 am one month prior to the date of the workshop (i.e., if the workshop is on October 1st, then registration will not be accepted until 9:15 am on September 1st). A maximum of ten, (10) scouts will be accepted from each pack and/or troop. (Back-to-back Webelos Workshops are to allow more packs an opportunity. Please limit total scouts to ten per pack in back-to-back events.) Participants must stay for the entire workshop. All workshops will be held at the National Wildlife Visitor Center, rain or shine. Please dress for the weather. Please note that all workshops are subject to change or cancellation dependent upon availability of staff and/or low registration numbers. Other programs may be available; call and ask to speak to our Scout Coordinator.
• 24th Annual Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show at The Show Place Arena
Where: The Show Place Arena, 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772
When: Saturday, March 8th, 2014 10am-5pm
Cost: $4 (Free for 12 and under and Scouts in uniform)
Enjoy unique displays of fossils, minerals, geodes and other materials related to the earth sciences. Exhibitors and vendors will be selling minerals, fossils, jewelry, gemstones, meteorites and more! Demonstrations of jewelry arts (cabochon making), gold panning, flint-knapping, and fluorescent (glowing) rocks will be provided. A mini-mine craft will give kids a chance to dig for a keepsake fossil. Children will also be able to learn how fossils are created by making one of their own. There will be a designated areas for Scouts of all ages to visit in order to meet some badge or belt-loop requirements in geology. Door prizes will be awarded at 30-minute intervals throughout the event.
