Back by popular demand, it's time for ...
The 2014 NCAC Occoquan District Boy Scout Merit Badge Day!!
Martin Luther King, Jr, Holiday
Monday, January 20, 2014
We expect this year's Merit Badge Day to be bigger and have more to offer than ever!
Of course we'll have the Eagle-required Merit Badges your newer Scouts need to learn essential skills and advance in rank, like Communications
Citizenship in the Community/Nation/World
Personal Management, and First Aid.
But we'll also offer exciting and hard-to-find options like
* Computers -- Programming and Game Design;
* STEM -- Space Exploration, Engineering, Electricity, Chess, and (if demand is sufficient) Chemistry;
* Other Professional Skills -- Medicine, Dentistry, Plumbing;
* And Fun Crafts and Outdoor Skills -- Fishing, Leatherwork, and Rifle Shooting!
The registration fee of just $25 not only covers the full day of merit badges offered, but also includes: your choice of one of four complete lunches (including a veggie option)all materials (think bridges, model rockets, leather, etc.), a 2014 Merit Badge Day patch to proudly wear on your uniform, and $5.00 in "Scout Bucks" to spend at the concessions stand.
For Star and Life Scouts and their parents and leaders, we'll have a free "Life to Eagle" Seminar in the afternoon. This helpful session will coach advancing Scouts and those helping them to navigate through the paperwork, project, and perplexities of the final push to Eagle Scout rank. We are also considering offering (free) classes for leaders; please let us know what you'd like to see, and we'll see what we can add this year and in the future.
We also hope to have Scout Shop representatives on hand, as we did last year, to supply leaders and Scouts alike with Scout Shop essentials.
New Merit Badges are still being added -- we'll keep you posted as they are. Some prerequisites are being updated by the counselors, but you can view examples of previous year's prerequisites at https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=b6211651dff0b7fc&id=B6211651DFF0B7FC%21233&authkey=!AI5cNu1iKU2AsmU for a good sense of what advance work will be required.
Please Note: The Rifle Shooting MB will be held a short drive (5 mins.) from Freedom High, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3000 Dale Blvd, Woodbridge 22191.No transportation will be provided between the two sites, but lunches for attendees will be brought to the church.
