Philmont Leadership Challenge (PLC)

The Philmont Training Center has announced the 2014 dates for the Philmont Leadership Challenge (PLC):

  • July 20-26
  • September 14-20


What is the Philmont Leadership Challenge?

Adults learn to internalize and practice their leadership skills in this action-packed backcountry experience.  The course hones the leadership skills taught in Wood Badge in an outdoor experiental learning environment.  PLC underscores the values of Scouting, teamwork, and promotes the concepts of servant leadership.  The course is open to Scouters in all programs who have completed Wood Badge for the 21st Century.  PLC is designed to enable adults to achieve many of the same leadership development objectives as those covered in the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE) for Scouts and Venturers--and more.


What can participants expect?

PLC is a very special experience.  You will camp in a team setting with adult leaders from throughout the country. Working as a team, the course enables participants to use their leadership skills to resolve challenging situations. (Note: Participants will not have an opportunity to be with their families during the week.)


What will participants take home from PLC?

  • The skills, ability, and motivation to be a dynamic and effective leader, taught through advanced, practical application of Wood Badge leadership skills.
  • Innovative techniques to deliver Wood Badge skills to units, districts, and councils.
  • Nationwide resources, including new ideas and contacts that can only be gained through a program of this type.

Who can attend PLC?

This course is open to adults who have completed Wood Badge for the 21st Century.  Participants must meet Philmont's backcountry physical standards as specified in the BSA Health and Medical Record, Parts A, B, C & D.


How much does it cost?

The fee for the six-day course is $515.  A payment of at least $50 is due when you complete the online application, with the balance due 30 days prior to arrival.
