Advancements and STEM NOVA Award Event

 




 

November 22 & 23, 2014

 

Cubs can earn their Cub Scout Geology Belt Loop or Webelos their Geology Academic Pin. All can work on their STEM NOVA Science Everywhere Award.  As part of meeting the STEM NOVA Award requirements, this event will include guided tours of the GMU Geology and Palaeontology labs.

 

 

 

This STEM Program consists of 3 hour sessions, starting every ½ hour, Saturday 10am to 3pm and Sunday 10am to 1pm.

Class sizes are limited to 16 Cub Scouts per session, and 4 Adult Den Walkers. You must register accordingly (1 Den walker for every 4 Scouts).   

 

There is a $5 Fee per Cub Scout. Adult Den walkers are free. Pre-registration is required and may be done online (scroll above to view sessions & register).  
*This event is open to Cubs/Webelos. It is not open to Tigers, as they may not earn the STEM NOVA Awards.*

  

This event will be held in the classrooms next to The HUB Ballroom & in conjunction with 23rd Annual Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show - sponsored by The GMU Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences and The Northern Virginia Mineral Club.


 

Directions and Parking: Only handicapped parking is permitted next to the HUB. All others should please park in Lot A (enter Lot from Nottaway River Lane off Braddock Road). Courtesy shuttle bus and vans will continuously run from Lot A to the HUB throughout the event.

Please arrive at the HUB 15 minutes prior to your session, allowing another 15 to 20 minutes to park in Lot A, to board the shuttle to the HUB / or walk.

You are also welcome to attend the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Show hosted by the Northern Virginia Mineral Club and sponsored by the George Mason University Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences Department. 

 

Mineral Show Location: The HUB Ballroom  

George Mason University Campus is located at the intersection of Route 123 & Braddock Road Fairfax, Virginia


Mineral Show Hours:
 Saturday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM   &   Sunday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM


Mineral Show Features: 20 plus Dealers selling Minerals, Fossils, Crystals, Gems, Jewelry, Carvings, Meteorites; Demos, Exhibits, Door Prizes, Kid's Activities including Kid’s Mini-mines & Fossil Dig, and Free Cub Scout and Webelos learning area inside Ballroom; separate from adjacent STEM classrooms.

There will be a Silent Auction on Sunday afternoon. 

Admission to Mineral Show/Ballroom: Adults $5, Seniors $3, Teens (13-17) $3.  FREE into Show/Ballroom - Children (12 & under), GMU Students w/valid ID and Scouts in uniform who are not attending the NCAC STEM event.
