Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)

 

Registration:
Registration is done online on the Session 1 (Classroom) event page. Cost to register is $ TBA.

Who should Attend

IOLS is the required outdoor training for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, Varsity Coaches and Assistant Varsity Coaches, and Venturing Advisors and Associate Venturing Advisors (Crews with Outdoor program, effective 1 Jan 2010). The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Boy Scout Handbook and focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

 

What to Bring

Your BSA ID number, proof of Youth Protection training, Tent, Flashlight, Scout Uniform, Rain Gear, note taking items, sleeping bag/bedroll, personal toiletries, compass, Day-pack/book bag, Unit specific leaders handbook, Scout handbook, pocket knife, Camp Chair (optional) and Current BSA Health Form: parts A & B including photocopy of insurance card.

Attendance

Attendees must attend the Wednesday classroom session, and the full weekend session starting on Friday 4 pm through to late evening on Saturday, and will eat and work as patrols. Attendees need to arrive on Friday as close to 4 pm as possible (dinner provided on Friday) and cooking meals at the campsite is part of the training program. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory to receive credit for the course.

 

Attendees will be assigned into patrols for the weekend at the Monday classroom session, and several requirements will be completed in advance of the weekend.
