Patriot District 2014 Spring Camporee
4/25/2014 to 4/27/2014
Claude Moore Farm - Dulles Airport
As of November 4, 2013
The theme for the Patriot District Spring Camporee is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Scouts and webeloes will have numerous chances to learn and have fun. On Saturday, the camporee will be divided in half with one group visiting Dulles airport in the morning and conducting STEM activities in the afternoon and the other group conducting STEM activities in the morning and visiting Dulles airport in the afternoon. At Dulles, scouts will be exposed to what it takes for an airport to operate. They will visit numerous sites such as the control tower, maintenance hangar and behind the scene baggage handling. Scouts also will learn about the canine operations, how the screening machines work and business operations. The highlight of the visit at Dulles will be a demonstration of how fire and rescue put out a fire from a fuselage of a crashed aircraft. The STEM activities will include the use of the new STEM van that Council just built. As always, the camporee program will include dodge-ball, archery and marksmanship.
The camporee will have the traditional events that bring us together as a district; Opening and Closing ceremonies, outdoor church services, a Saturday night campfire, the Order of the Arrow call-out and a senior patrol leader/scoutmaster cracker barrel. The camporee will be held from Friday night, April 25 till Sunday morning, April 27, 2014. There will be an extended program until 5 PM on Sunday for troops that would like to remain.
It is important that units notify Joe Casey by e-mail or phone by March 31, 2014 that they plan to attend the camporee. His e-mail is email@example.com
and his phone number is (703) 455-9050. Units need to notify Joe of the approximate number of participants. Final camporee registration and payment will take place Friday evening on-site as units arrive.
Troops are requested to volunteer to provide the Camporee Senior Patrol Leader and the Flag Detail for the Opening and Closing ceremonies. The Camporee Senior Patrol Leader is responsible for conducting the Camporee Opening and Closing ceremonies and acting as Master of Ceremonies for the Saturday night campfire. This is a great opportunity for a senior scout to display his leadership abilities. Also, the camporee is looking for at least two scout buglers or trumpet players. As always, the camporee staff is in need of adult volunteers to support the different events. Volunteers should phone William Dexter, the Camporee Director at (703) 978-2632 or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org
