The Powhatan District Pinewood Derby and Bake-Off brings together the fastest cars and best designs from all Packs in the District at all Cub Scout levels (Tiger, Wolves, Bears and Webelos) for competition in speed and design; add in the traditional Powhatan Bake-Off contest and you have a fun day of food and competition.
The Pinewood Derby is a fun filled day of racing Scout built wood race cars. For the new Scouts, the kit does contain what will be your car, even though out of the box it looks like a chunk of wood. The basics are for you shape your car to the design you want it, paint it, put on the wheels and decals then you're ready to race! Just be sure to keep in mind the specifications listed on this page.
As for paints, decals and decorations for your car, Scout Shops and stores like Michael’s have a nice selection. As for car body shapes and hints, if you do a web search on Pinewood Derby cars you will be amazed at the number of hits.
The doors open at 8:00 AM. Registration for each category begin approximately 30 minutes before race times. Race times are listed in the Powhatan District Derby Guide available at the bottom of this page. All start times are approximate.
