Patriot "Good Scout" Award Honoree

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, will be honored at a pre-dinner VIP Reception with the Patriot "Good Scout” Award for his dedication to public service, commitment to civic endeavors and exceptional support of youth in Scouting.

Event Overview

Scouting Salutes the Military will recognize and honor one active duty enlisted service member from each branch of the U.S. military - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Service Chiefs and Senior Enlisted Advisors for each Service branch nominated candidates who are enlisted (E4-E6) service members, have Scouting in their background and have displayed exceptional meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service, heroic deeds and/or valorous actions. The event also helps to raise critical funds for the local youth-serving programs of National Capital Area Council.

2013 Scouting Salutes the Military Honorees

  • U.S. Army – Sergeant (SGT) Robert D. Keifer
  • U.S. Navy – LS2(AW/SW) Leonardo N. Correia
  • U.S. Air Force – Senior Airman (SrA) Bradley T. Baker
  • U.S. Marine Corps – Staff Sergeant (SSgt) James H. Delecki
  • U.S. Coast Guard – Petty Officer Chad Lyman

Generally accepted by the federal government to be a ‘widely attended’ event, Salute to Military brings together industry leaders, senators from Capitol Hill, senior branch officials, enlisted service members and our local Scouting community to celebrate the bond of service we all share. Eagle Scout Senate members will be in attendance. Area Boy Scout, Michael Hepburn, from Troop 1812, will also present his essay entitled, "How I can Show My Patriotism in My Community”, which received national honor.
