Each year, the NER can award 8 Venturing Leadership Awards
to a Venturing Scout from the Northeast United States. Northeast Region Venturing (Otherwise known
as NERVE) serves more than 22,000 Venturers in 65 councils across 13 states,
the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the European Embassies. So this award is quite special.
Brenda Renninger, 18, of Ship 548 was the NER Sea Scout
Venturing Leadership Award winner at the 2014 NER Sea Scout Bridge of
Honor. Brenda has had an extraordinary
rise in her 6 years serving as Boatswain of her Ship, Squadron, Flotilla and
Region. She is a 2011 graduate of the
SEAL Course, attending in Galveston, TX.
When asked “you’ve been Boatswain of nearly every level in
Sea Scouts – what are you going to do now?” she did not reply with a trip to
Disneyworld. Her plans are to attend the
College of Southern Maryland and eventually teach Kindergarten. The NER Sea Scouts have no doubt that every
one of these lucky young kids will end up sailors.
