Here is your latest update from your Goshen Team.

Don’t forget the Early Bird Deadline is April 24th (next Friday).  Be sure that your Scouts and Adults are registered and paid in the system by this day.  We will be increasing fees after this date by $40.00.  (Camper Aid applicants should continue to follow the instructions on the letters they received).

Once you’ve made payment for your Early Bird registrants, your Goshen Hats (non-customized) are available for pickup at the Council office.  Our hours are 8:30–5:00 Monday-Friday.  We are working on additional locations and pickup times for those who are not able to make to Bethesda.  Additionally, if you would like your District Professional Scouter to pick up your unit’s hats, please contact them directly.  A separate email will be sent to those who ordered customized hats once they have arrived in our office.  

We will be having our final orientation meeting in Bethesda on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. The location is the Marriott Scout Service Center, 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD  20814  It will begin at 7pm.  If you were unable to attend any of the previous meetings and would like to become further oriented with Goshen and the Goshen team, please plan to be at this meeting.  

Our T-shirt vendor has extended their deadline until May 1, 2015.  If you are interested in purchasing T-shirts before camp, please visit www.gotogoshen.org and click on the Information tab for details.

We are almost finished building a great team at Goshen for this summer.  We do have a few spots that are open for people who are 21 years old and over.  If you know of any people who might enjoy working with youth and can spend time with us for a summer at Goshen, please forward this message to them.  We are looking for your friends, neighbors, college-aged children, and anyone with the drive to really make a difference in the lives of young people.  Any leads you can provide will be great!

Announcement for April 10, 2015

Dear Goshen Leaders:

 

Here is an update of what’s going on with Goshen:

 

·         Don’t forget that the T-shirt order deadline is on April 15th!  We will have plenty of T-shirts at Goshen this summer but if you want your trip to be extra special and arrive with your own 2015 commemorative shirt, please don’t delay in placing the order.  You can find the order forms in the Announcements and Information sections of www.gotogoshen.org.

·         Our Early Bird Deadline is rapidly approaching!  Please make sure to have all of your Scouts and adults registered and paid before midnight on April 24th to take advantage of our Early Bird pricing.  Fees will increase by $40.00 a person on April 25th.

·         We had a great first Orientation meeting this week!  We have another 3 meetings scheduled—one in Arlington, one in Leesburg, and another in Bethesda.  You can find out the locations and times by visiting www.gotogoshen.org.  At the bottom (center right) of our homepage, you’ll see all of the upcoming events!

·         Bus registration will be coming online after the Early Bird registration.  Currently, we have reserved the Fairfax County Government Center for our bus transportation.  We will use a Largo location by request only.  The bus fee this year will be $45.00. 

·         Camper Aid letters were mailed to families today!  The leader letters will be mailed on Monday.  Please make sure that all of your families follow the instructions outlined in the letters.  Also, please remember not to make any payments on behalf of your Camper Aid applicants—we are very restricted in how we are to use the funds and writing refunds to Units instead of paying directly for Camp is not in accordance with our guidelines.

 

Finally,  please keep doing the awesome job you’re doing in navigating the registration system. The Goshen team is happy to help you with all of your inquiries.

Pre-Order a Goshen T-shirt today!

Great news!  We are offering Scouts and Leaders the chance to purchase a specialty T-shirt before arriving at Goshen.  Please see the attached image and then visit our Forms and Downloads page to fill out the order form that corresponds to your summer camp.  You'll be mailing your payment and form directly to the vendor, Image Group Ink, so please be sure to follow all instructions.

Please Welcome Terri Larus to the Goshen Family

Greetings Goshen Leaders!

I am writing to introduce you all to our newest Goshen family member, Ms. Terri Larus.  Terri comes to us from a position with the Commonwealth of Virginia.  She brings with her a vast knowledge of customer service, research, and information technology skills.  We are very pleased that she has chosen to join the Goshen operation.  Please feel free to introduce yourselves to her; also, don’t hesitate to send her your administrative questions.  I will be assisting in answering these inquiries as Terri acclimates herself to her new position.

March 25th—Customized Hat Deadline  Be sure to place your orders in the online store at register.gotogoshen.org

April 8th—Goshen Orientation Meeting, Marriott Scout Service Center 7:00 PM.  
April 13th—Goshen Orientation Meeting, Virginia—Location TBD —7:00 PM
April 15th—Goshen Orientation Meeting, Virginia—Location TBD—7:00PM (If any of you have a location that can fit 70 people, please let me know!  It would be of great service to your fellow Goshen leaders).
April 24th—Early Bird Deadline  Make sure that your Scouts and leaders don’t miss out on our special pricing.
May 29th—Regular Pricing Deadline
June 20th—First day of Camp (Bowman)
June 21st—First Day of Camp (Olmsted, Lenhok’sin, Ross, PMI)
June 22nd—First Day of Camp (Marriott—arrive no later than 8:00 AM)
September 4-7—Goshen Labor Day Weekend Family Camp

Goshen Update--Large Unit Uploads, Custom Hats, and more!

Dear Unit Leaders, Here are your latest updates from your team at Goshen Scout Reservation:

 

• For units who have more that 25 attendees coming to Goshen, a large unit upload template is available on our website, www.gotogoshen.org. You can find it under the “Forms and Downloads” tab. Once you’ve fill out the highlighted sections, please email directly to gary.carroll@scouting.org with the subject line “Unit type (Troop/Pack/Team/Crew) Number Large Unit Upload.” Once our developer uploads into the system, I will inform you and you will be able to continue with registration of your unit.

 

• Customized hats are returning! They are currently available for order in the online store at register.gotogoshen.org. Each customized cap costs $6.50 and will be available for pickup at the Marriott Scout Service Center after April 25, 2015. In order to meet this deadline, we can only accept orders until March 25th.

 

• We are currently looking for a few people over the age of 21 years of age to fill some key leadership roles at Goshen. People with skills in Aquatics and Shooting Sports are encouraged to contact Gary Carroll at Gary.Carroll@Scouting.org or 301 633 5456 in order to apply.

Goshen Registration is now Fully Active

Dear Goshen Leaders,

 

This note is to inform you that we have now officially opened Goshen Registration for you to begin adding your Scouts and additional leaders.  You can begin doing so at register.gotogoshen.org.

 

Please be reminded of some of our procedures:

 

1.  In order for a Scout or adult to be registered, payment must be made at the time of registration.  Scouts and adults who are not paid by 12:00 every night will automatically be un-registered from their camp session.  

 

2.  Our Camper Aid deadline was posted as February 1, 2015.  The form can be found here:http://www.ncacbsa.org/members/group_content_view.asp?group=119323&id=282487

I realize that this might be the first that many of your have heard this information and it is reflective of a change in policy.  Please do you best to submit forms by March 1, 2015.  Also, please remember not to register any Scouts applicants for Camper Aid into the online system.  This function will be taken care of by a member of the Goshen Staff.

 

3. Our Goshen fees will increase on April 25, 2015.  Please be sure to register and make payment before this time.  Anyone who has made a payment in the system by this date will be eligible for their 2015 Goshen cap.  Caps embroidered with the Unit Type, Number and city will be available for purchase in the online store again this year, beginning February 15.  The deadline for these orders will be April 1, 2015.

 

4.  You may begin signing up for merit badges at Camps Bowman and Marriott immediately.  Please wait until Monday to begin signing up for merit badges at Camp Olmsted. We are still making adjustments to the online registration for those classes and we do not want you to sign up for a class that may no longer exist in that time slot.

Goshen Update--Make Sure Your Unit is Registered!

Dear Goshen 2015 Leaders,

Firstly, I want to wish you all a warm and happy 2015!  We are excited about the coming season and have already begun putting together new programs and improving facilities.  One thing that you may not know, Calicoe Richir, Goshen’s administrator, relocated at the end of November due to a new work assignment received by her husband.  We miss her and wish her the best (she may pop up at Goshen during the summer).  We are working now to fill the very large shoes of Calicoe.  Until that happens, I’ll be your primary point of contact.

In looking at the registrations for 2015, it appears that many of you have been using the online system with very few issues.  This is great!  We do not anticipate that there will be a lot of changes from the 2014 procedures.  We will still be implementing the large group registration template for any unit with 20 or more campers.  More info on that will be distributed later.  Some of you have registered for camp but have yet to make a payment to secure your spot.  

Please read this carefully.

If no payment has been made, your unit is not counted as registered for Camp.  Thankfully, correcting this situation is easy.  We can solve with two options.

Option 1:  Call Gary at 301 633 5456 with Credit Card in hand and we will process over the phone.

Option 2:  Go into your unit’s registration, click on the event registration option under the “Group Menu” tab.  Click the red x next to your Group’s registration and then reselect that option.  Immediately go back to the Group Menu tab, select the Event Billing option and then follow the prompts to make payment.  Of course, if you have questions, please feel free to give me a call.

We are anticipating that we will open registration for all campers on January 30th this year.  I will send another note to let you all know when we are live.

Dear Goshen Leaders,

We want to ensure that you are up-to-date on the latest information about your upcoming summer experience at Goshen Scout Reservation. Please see below for the answers to this week’s most frequently asked questions:

  • Have I missed the registration deadline? How do I register my Scouts and additional Leaders?
    • You have not missed the deadline. We are still working with our developers to ensure that the program that we roll out meets all of our needs and is user-friendly. Once the registration portal is open to general registration, an email will be sent to all unit registrars.
  • My Scout will not bridge over to a troop until after March. How will I ensure that we don’t miss out on our spot?
    • Although our reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis, we will be holding a few spots for each unit in anticipation of bridging Scouts. Families are also encouraged to let their troops know of their summer camp intentions so that the unit registrar is able to begin the registration process.
  • When will the Leaders’ Guide for 2014 be available?
    • Your Goshen Team is working very hard on updating the Leaders’ Guide. It is our intent to have a general Leader guide with appendices for each of the Camps so that there is one location for all available information. The first draft version will be available to participants at the University of Scouting on February 22, 2014. The subsequent draft will be complete by February 28th.
  • What is the ratio of Scouts to Leaders at Goshen?
    • The preferred ratio for Camps Ross and PMI is 5 scouts : 2 Adult Leaders. More Leaders are welcome to attend and are invited to divide the week with their counterparts. Of course, parents and Leaders of Scouts who need more constant supervision are welcome to attend. Please remember that we also encourage carpooling and that a 1:1 ratio should only be used when absolutely necessary.
    • The preferred ratio for Camps Marriott, Bowman, and Olmsted is 8 Scouts : 2 Adult Leaders. At Lenhok’sin the preference is 2-3 Adult Leaders per crew.
