Use the Internet to do Your Unit's Charter Renewal

Internet Charter Renewal is a Web-based method for units to renew their charters from any online location such as the office, home, or public library. It's easy, convenient, and accurate because you enter the information yourself!

A representative of your unit cancomplete the paperwork for renewing a charter online. From Internet Rechartering, you can indicate returning members, add new members, and update information for an individual or the chartered organization.

You don't have one of these packages? To help you get started, once your unit has purchased one of the packages, have your district executive get a 'starter' diskette with your units information. This will enable you to import all of the units information that is currently on file (warning - if you already have data stored, this import function will replace all information for your unit).

How to Use Internet Rechartering

Training on Internet Rechartering is being set up within each district - visit your district's homepage for details. Each unit will receive its Charter Renewal Package as usual. This year, the packet includes information for Internet Rechartering, including an access code especially for each unit. The unit selects an adult to complete the online process. This renewal "processor" uses the access code to log onto the Internet Rechartering Web site, selecting whether to start the process with current ScoutNet data, or data from unit-management software. At anytime, the renewal processor can suspend the electronic rechartering process and return later to the last complete screen.

The system lets you enter new members, renew current members and update information for any registrant. When completed, the new unit roster is submitted to ScoutNet and a Unit Charter Renewal Report Package is printed. This package includes the unit charter application. Acquire the signatures for the application, attach applications and fees and take entire package to your district's "Recharter Turn-in Meeting". Additionally, anyone who wants to learn more about how Internet Rechartering works can take the interactive Internet Rechartering tutorial below and view the Online Help. Please note that you will need to have Internet Explorer 5.5 or better to use this new Internet Rechartering feature.

*Please be advised that ScoutNet shuts down from 9pm Saturday through 6pm Sunday, every weekend, for routine system maintenance. There are also upgrades performed quarterly that last slightly longer. The next upgrade scheduled will be announced at a later date.

RECHARTERING UPDATE - Unit Scouter Reserve registration issues: ***New***

Units may be experiencing difficulties using Internet Recharter to re-charter or add adult leaders using the U92 – Unit College Scouter Reserve or V92 – Venturing Unit College Reserve adult position codes. Units desiring to recharter leaders who qualify for either code should register them as an assistant or associate scout leader as appropriate in the desired BSA program, and then annotate on the printed recharter report the desired leader code (U92 and V92). The NCAC Registration Department will correct the registrations during final charter processing.

As a reminder, U92 – UCSR requires completion of Youth Protection Training (Y01); V92 – Venturing UCSR requires Youth Protection Training for Venturing (Y02) for Crew and Ship leaders.

Contact the NCAC Registration Department at (301) 214-9187 or e-mail for more information.
